I am a mandolin and guitar player out of SF, CA. I started down the long road to loving bluegrass music due to the influence of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. My guitar playing was influenced by the Grateful Dead's acoustic music - primarily Reckoning, and by O&ITW. For a while I travelled extensively and found the mandolin to be an easier instrument to take on planes so I started concentrating on it. Now I've been playing mandolin for more than 10 years (guitar for 25).
Over the years I have been in a number of bands but primarily play amplified acoustic swing music with the SF based Chazz Cats (www.chazzcats.com). Within this band lives an occasional BG band known as "Belle Monroe & The Brew Glass Boyz." We play now and then around SF.
Other than that I have a fascination with all the great mandolin players of the BG genre: Monroe, Jesse McReynolds, Sam Bush, Frank Wakefield, Mike Compton, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, Ron McCoury etc...
This is the most fundamentally heart moving of any American Roots music in my humble opinion. It continues to inspire and delight me and I believe it always will. It has energy, passion, drive, terrific instrumental qualities and is very fun to listen to and play.
I encourage everyone to enjoy Bluegrass.....
