Lynwood Lunsford

My name is Lynwood Lunsford. I lead my own band called "Lynwood Lunsford & the Misty Valley Boys". We record on the Hay Holler label. I play the banjo.
In the early 70's, it became a fad to start your own bluegrass band. Part of this was due to the popularity of the Camp Springs bluegrass festival, run by Carlton Haney. We lived only about an hour's drive away. My dad and two of his cousins formed a band called "The Country Cousins". That was my first introduction to bluegrass. Before that, all we listened to was country, Merle Haggard, George Jones, etc. But I fell in love with the banjo and decided to try and learn it. Of course, my whole family on my dad's side played music. My grandaddy played old-time mandolin, my great grandaddy played clawhammer banjo, but none of this was bluegrass.
I finally learned to play banjo (after much trial and error) and have had the opportunity to play with some of the greats in bluegrass and to travel over most of the US, Canada and Mexico.
Anyway, that's my story.
